What do you need to do in the garden this week? Enjoy it. Harvest from it and share it with those nearest and dearest. Water things if it is too dry where you are, and hoe at the weeds if you get a chance. Mulching around things will help in both these regards and reduce your workload in the garden significantly.

If you find yourself with a spare half day or even a few hours this week you can:

Sow seeds for winter/next spring – cabbage, swede, silverbeet, parsley, lettuce.

Transplant celery and leeks for winter harvest.

Stake and tie up tomatoes as they continue to grow. Continue to remove the laterals that grow between the main stem and the branches. Once each plant has set 4-5 sets of fruit pinch the top out of the plant to encourage the fruit to ripen.

If you have fruit trees, now is a good time to thin out fruit if there appears to be too many.
